Sunscreen Guide

Cover photo of Sunscreen Guide blog post for Fit Mission Makeup

It’s time to share my sunscreen guide with you! Sunscreen is a very important part of our daily routines – at least it should be. You can use this guide with some rock solid sunscreens that I texted out for months for all different skin types in different weather climates & situations. One huge reason I put so much time into this guide & method was because your sunscreen can truly act as a primer when used right! No longer do you need to just put it on without any thought behind it because let’s face it, who loves how sunscreen feels on their skin? On top of that, sometimes we use products that truly don’t take care of our skin or have better ingredients in it. Our faces aren’t a one-size-fits-all so why treat it as if they are if we aren’t taking care of the skin for what it is. This includes sunscreen and makeup!

With this guide, you’ll find answers to issues you’re having with your sunscreens & great options for your skin type. As much as we love the sun, it can have harmful effects on our skin and the best way to protect it is by wearing a sunscreen that will protect you from harmful UV rays. There are so many choices on the shelves at the store, so which sunscreen is right for you? I’ve created this guide to help you as you choose the right one that will offer your skin the protection it needs, work with your skin type, and work well with your day to day activities!

The sunscreen guide that I’ve put together contains different types of sunscreens that I have tested myself on my own skin. As I’ve always reiterated, it’s important to keep in mind everyone’s skin is different so what works for one person may not work for another. Make sure to find the right sunscreen for your skin type! For more skincare tips, check out my skincare guide here.

(All other sunscreens are linked via the button below)

My goal for you is to use this guide to find great options for your. Whether you have dry skin, oily skin, or combination skin, sunscreen won’t be an issue any longer! I personally use 2 sunscreens each day for my oily and dry skin. I put specific ones in key places and I’m set for the day. This is the order I apply my morning routine since I’m able to use what is just right for my face using less layers & products:

After washing, I use Vitamin C serum, let it dry completely & absorb, then moisturizer ONLY on dry places & the troughs under my eyes. Next I apply sunscreen and lastly my cream foundation from Seint

Using sunscreens that work best for you is a game changer. Also, using sunscreens that work WITH your skin & truly being intentional with it will change the game of your makeup too.

Ultimately, my goal is to help you find your top sunscreens and no longer feel like you need a moisturizer AND spf in one that doesn’t fully serve you. Why? Well, because when you use products that are all in one, you can’t choose the quality of what you are putting on your skin. It also doesn’t help you take care of the skin type you have in key places & give your skin what it fully needs there so you don’t end up feeling oily.

I hope this guide can serve you well and you find exactly what you need as you go through it! I think you’re going to love the options I’ve given and leave a comment or email me at fitmissionmakeup@gmail.com if you have any questions!

What is Seint makeup?

Seint makeup is a cream-based product which includes cream foundation, contour, blush and lip colors (aka lip & cheeks), and more. While most of Seint’s products are cream-based, they do have an assortment of mostly powder eyeshadows, with a handful of cream colors.

Is Seint makeup good for mature skin?

Seint beauty is truly incredible for most if not all skin types. It is a cream-based foundation which means it works especially well for those with mature skin. Seint makeup can be used to achieve a light application to a full coverage look.

How do I choose my Seint foundation colors and build a custom palette?

Building your custom makeup palette with Seint official is easier than ever before, just get started with a color match HERE! As a trained Seint artist, I can color match your skin tone to the right shades of Seint foundation and give recommendations for your contour, eyeshadows, and more. All you have to do to get started is submit a makeup free photo here on my website and I’ll send over your custom Seint color match within 24-48 hours!

Why do I need more than one Seint highlight color?

Everyone’s skin tone is different, but more often than not, our skin is not one color/tone. You may see darker tones, you might see lighter tones. The IIID foundation is named accordingly as the makeup is meant to enhance the beauty that’s already there and provide a more natural look in comparison to other foundations within other makeup companies.

Why is my Seint contour hard?

The formula for the Seint Official contour colors is a little different than the other cream products but a trick I’ve used for years now is letting my palette warm up in direct sunlight to help the longevity of the makeup last all day as that is an area that can get rubbed on more. I warm it up in sunlight until my colors are soft enough to be applied. You can also run a blow dryer lightly over the top of your tin to warm up the cream and soften the contour for application. If you ever need to melt down your tin to soften it out or refresh it, using a candle warmer works great as it’s not too hot and is easy to use.

Is Seint makeup TSA approved?

Yes! This is yet another reason I love Seint makeup – no more worrying about measuring out your liquid foundation when traveling. Since the makeup comes in a palette and most of the products are cream, you don’t have to worry about being stopped in airport security! It’s all in one compact – foundation, contour, lip colors, eyeshadows, etc. and it’s that easy.

Does Seint have a skincare line?

Yes! The Seint cleanser, toner, and creme are sold separately or they can be purchased in a bundle along with Seint microfiber cloths. If you are new to skincare and looking for somewhere to start, the Seint skincare collection is the perfect place for you to begin. You can shop Seint’s skincare HERE. To learn more about skincare and how it goes hand in hand with your makeup, check out my Skincare Blog Post here!

Do I have to buy Seint makeup brushes?

Seint Official makeup brushes are specially curated to go hand in hand with the cream-based makeup. They make all the difference in the world and can help you achieve the makeup look you want depending on how it’s used, which brush is used, and what methods you use to apply Seint makeup. You can start off with a couple brushes or you can get the Brush Collection! Keep your brushes safe using the Brush Holder and cleaning them regularly.

How often should I clean my Seint makeup brushes?

I recommend cleaning your Seint beauty makeup brushes at least once a week and giving them a good deep clean once a month. Using the Seint Brush Cleanser, spray a paper towel or washcloth directly and lightly sweep/swirl your brushes over the towel to remove product build up. I use Dawn dish soap to disinfect my brushes once a month during their deep cleaning, making sure not to soak the brushes or press down too hard onto any brush mat that I use to clean them.

Photo of Seint Official makeup brushes

How do I become a Seint artist?

I always recommend trying the makeup before signing up to be a Seint artist – it’s important to know and love the product before sharing it with others! If you’ve tried the makeup and have decided to become an artist, all you need to do is sign up on the Seint Official website. There’s no experience needed and becoming an artist is all about creating the business YOU want! This can be a side business for you or it can become a full time occupation, depending on how much time you commit to building it. Click HERE to read the 2022 Artist Income Disclosure Statement for more information regarding compensation.

Do you use a primer with Seint makeup?

Primers aren’t always necessary but choosing the right products to prep your skin for your makeup is! You can use a sunscreen, setting spray, or normal primer before your makeup application – it doesn’t matter which one you use, but it does matter whether or not it’s made for your specific skin type! The key is less is more –  the more product you layer on your skin before applying your Seint makeup, the harder it will be for your makeup to adhere the way you want.

I’ve put together some of my recommendations for primers categorized by skin type; for COMBINATION – OILY SKIN options, click HERE. For NORMAL – DRY SKIN options, click HERE. For dry skin, I also recommend the Seint Setting Spray!

Should I moisturize before applying Seint makeup?

The cream-based makeup contains ingredients that help moisturize and lock in moisture so not much else is needed, however if you have skin that is typically more dry, you can definitely moisturize before applying your Seint makeup.Make sure to only apply it to your driest areas and give it time to fully absorb into your skin before continuing with your makeup application.

What are Seint Demi Correctors?

Seint said it best:

“Demi Correctors is a carefully calibrated saturation of cream color that is strategically applied using a featherlight technique. Most of your skin remains untouched, resulting in an undetectable makeup that reveals the magic of your face.”

“Analyze the colors present in areas of your face you want to correct for, then utilize color solving to select shades from your palette to filter out any excess colors you don’t want, and infuse your skin with a natural luminosity.”

“Using a Seint brush, apply a light touch of Demi Corrector directly to the places on your skin that need color correcting to achieve a flawless finish without layering and add texture with makeup.”

Skincare Guide Pt. 2 : Hyaluronic Acid & Gentle Facial Cleansers

cover photo for gentle facial cleansers and hyaluronic acid blog post by Jocelyn McClellan & Fit Mission Makeup
cover photo for gentle facial cleansers and hyaluronic acid blog post by Jocelyn McClellan & Fit Mission Makeup

On the daily, I work with women one on one to troubleshoot and understand their skincare and makeup.  Most of the time we deal with makeup and why they cannot get the look they want from it.  When it comes down to it, we always have to ask ourselves “what condition is the skin in?”  If you are someone who feels like you cannot get your skincare to where you want it to be or you don’t know where to start with skincare, here are two key things that we can start focusing on today: gentle cleansers & hyaluronic acid.

Importance of Gentle Cleansers & HA

In regards to gentle cleansers, are you using one?  There’s a good chance that your skin might be getting too worn out or mad at the cleansers you are using.  You want to have one that is gentle, especially if you have sensitive skin or are going through changes within your body (illness, allergies, menopause, etc.).  A gentle cleanser can make it a little easier on your skin and make all the difference in the world for your makeup!

That being said, some people do use gentle cleansers but are not noticing a change in their skin. Depending on your skin type, you might need just a little more TLC! One other thing you can introduce into your skincare routine is Hyaluronic Acid.  Hyaluronic Acid helps build up collagen as well as reduces fine lines and wrinkles.  It also does an excellent job of training your skin to retain moisture!

Gentle facial cleansers & hyaluronic acid skincare guide for Fit Mission Makeup blog post by Jocelyn McClellan SEINT artist

Having a gentle cleanser as well as Hyaluronic Acid &  just focusing on those two is a great place to start instead of incorporating a bunch of skincare all at once. It takes time for the skin to ease into it all so remember to add little by little to your skincare routine! Big changes to the skin can have big reactions but you can start with these two and see how your skin likes it.

What changes should I expect in my skin?

Keep in mind these products within the guide are not all tried and true by myself but a lot of research went into finding solid gentle facial cleansers and hyaluronic acids. When researching, I chose products that were rated well & had trustworthy reviews.  I made sure to include medical grade & over the counter brands as well.  Don’t forget the importance to test out a gentle cleanser for 4-6 weeks before you give up on it…unless you are seeing a drastic sensitivity immediately. After implementing a gentle cleanser & hyaluronic acid into your skincare, the difference you should be noticing is your skin waking up and not feeling so dried out.  You should be achieving more of a natural glow within your skin.

REMEMBER: These are just 2 key pieces to a solid skincare routine. If you have any serums or moisturizers that you love and you know your skin needs, keep using them! Having a gentle facial cleanser & a solid hyaluronic acid isn’t the only way to getting the skin you want, but they are two key components to a great skincare concoction!

Are you someone who feels like this is the place where your skin needs to be at?  Make sure you comment on this blog post or email me with any questions that you may have at fitmissionmakeup@gmail.com.  We want to make sure your skin is happy so you can have better results with your SEINT makeup or any makeup for that matter; without setting the foundation of a good skincare routine, you will never be able to achieve the makeup look you are desiring. I’m here for you though and happy to help! For more details and tips on skincare or building a solid skincare regimen, make sure to check out my Skincare Guide here!

Gua Sha & Jade Rolling: How This Could Help You

Gua Sha and Facial Roller
Gua Sha and Facial Roller

Gua Sha is an ancient tool of Chinese medicine that has recently been trending all over social media. The results of using this facial tool have varied from person to person but the underlying benefits are no joke! Not only does Gua Sha help relieve tension in facial muscles, it also promotes lymphatic drainage and boosts blood circulation. It may seem new for some but it’s actually been around for a very long time and I want to share some awesome benefits to using this technique!

Another popular tool used alongside Gua Sha is the Jade Roller. Used together, these can babies can work wonders for your skin. Rollers are also used to improve blood circulation in the face just as the Gua Sha however it’s recommended to use it as the last step. You may have seen these tools trending online and you can get them in many different colors! I’ll be sure to share a link below to what I use!

Black Gua Sha

I highly recommend storing both of these skincare tools in a cold place such as a freezer or refrigerator. The reason for this is that the cold stone can help to reduce or restrict the blood flowing in areas on your face. While doing this, the act of rolling the cold stone outwards pushes lymph, a fluid under the skin, towards your lymph nodes. When this happens, the lymph nodes will then work to break down toxins found within. Here are some benefits to both:

Jade Rolling:

    • Improve headaches
    • Decrease puffiness of the lowers eyelids
    • Lessen sinus pressure
    • Calm the mind
    • Soothes the skin
    • Keeps wrinkles at bay
    • Allows other skincare products to fully absorb into your skin

Gua Sha:

  •  Promotes blood flow & circulation in the face
  •  Relaxes the facial muscles
  • Can be used on other muscles to alleviate pain
  • Helps reduce neck pain
While this technique may not be everyone’s cup of tea, I would say it’s definitely worth trying at least once! Make sure to use with a face oil and not against dry skin as that can irritate it further. Click here for the link to the tool duo that I use and recommend for others! I hope this was helpful for all you lovelies and for sure leave a comment letting me know what you think!

5 Favorite Skincare Products

Skincare Blog Cover Photo

Let’s talk skincare products sista! I have been asked time and time again about my skincare routine, products I use, and what I recommend for others. Here are 5 of my favorite skincare products that are tried and true, and have been absolute game changers for myself!

Cure Gel Exfoliator

The name of this baby is so fitting as it truly is a cure for so many! I love how soft this stuff is on your skin and unlike so many other exfoliators, it isn’t abrasive when it does the job. Cure doesn’t feel harsh and my skin isn’t left feeling super dry after it’s used, one reason why it’s one of my favorite skincare products! I use it 1-2 times weekly on dry skin, massaging it into my skin in circular motions. I follow up by rinsing with water or wiping my skin with a damp/wet washcloth. When I say this product is a must have for my skin, I mean it – get yourself some sista!

Prevention+ by IMAGE Skincare

If you know me and have been watching me for some time now, you know how much I stress the importance of protecting your skin. Sunshine is beautiful but it can also be harmful and have lasting damage to our skin! Prevention+ by IMAGE skincare has got to be one of my favorite skincare products for sure. I have tried so many sunscreens in my day and one thing I cannot stand is the smell so many of them carry. You know how mineral sunscreens can be so white and smelly? That isn’t this one! It contains Zinc, cleaner ingredients than most other sunscreens, and it’s more of a matte finish – even my hubby likes it (he won’t admit it but at least he wears it!). Take care of your skin sista – you’ll thank me in the long run!

A couple of my favorite skincare products are by The Ordinary and this is one I just HAD to share! This at-home chemical peel is so awesome for the working woman or busy mom who just don’t have the time or resources to head to an esthetician regularly. Your kids and significant other might ask why you look the way you do after but it truly wakes up your skin. This baby is a pH balanced solution used to deeply exfoliate the surface level of skin, improve uneven texture, clear your pores, and more! I absolutely love it; I’ve used it for a long time now and every time I use it, I remember why I keep using it. This may be one of my favorite skincare products, but make sure not to use it too often – once a week is plenty and be sure to test it on an area of skin first!

Seint Creme

If you REALLY know me, you’ve heard me talk about Seint’s Creme (formerly known as Milk moisturizer) to no end. I truly cannot stress enough how good this stuff is and the fact that it’s great for just about any skin type just makes it that much better! My skin has never looked better after using this golden creme! It’s best used on dry, clean skin and a little trick I like to use is at night, after applying my creme, I go over it with a little bit of Vaseline or Aquaphor in those super dry spots to really hydrate them. You need this creme, even if you don’t think you do – haha it’s THAT good girlfriend!

Needle-less Serum by DRMTLGY

I use this serum along with a Vitamin C serum prescribed by my dermatologist and I feel like my skin looks so rejuvenated and happy when I wake up! The name is fitting as I don’t want to look like I’m aging (does anyone?) and the way my skin feels using this is just incredible. It’s meant to be used twice a day and it targets fine lines/wrinkles while re-hydrating your skin. One of the best parts about the Needle-less Serum is that it doesn’t leave you feeling oily or greasy like other serums can! It’s currently DRMTLGY’s best selling product and I can honestly say they truly outdid themselves with this one – it’s so good sista!

The biggest secret of all....WATER!

My most favorite skincare product of them all – WATER!! I can’t tell you how often we look to cremes, serums, face masques, etc. but we forget just how beneficial drinking water is for us. Our bodies need it and the biggest tip I can share here is to DRINK MORE WATER! One of the best ways to up my water intake I’ve found for myself is by carrying a water bottle or tumbler everywhere I go. It’s truly one of the best investments you can make in yourself and if you can find one with the straw, even better! You’re more likely to drink water from a bottle with a straw than from one you have to uncap – click this link to find some amazing ones by SimpleModern and find the perfect water bottle for you!

Demi Colour

Demi Colour is Seint’s newest breakthrough in makeup, bringing together science and beauty! You are going to absolutely LOVE this – I know it looks different, but trust me on this! The new line was recently released by Seint and has been all the rave ever since. There have been so many questions about the makeup ever since its release and so I’m here to tell you all about Demi Colour and why its become so popular among Artists and customers alike! You can also click here to join me on my Demi Instagram page where I offer tips, tricks, LIVES, and more to help you in your Demi Colour journey!

Demi model

When I tell you this makeup has been a breakthrough discovery, I mean it! Demi Colour is a cream based makeup, just like the IIID foundation that Seint still carries but the difference is this line uses color theory to help you camouflage the smaller imperfections noticed and really accentuate the beauty that is already there. Using Demi means using less makeup compared to traditional foundations, “resulting in an undetectable makeup that reveals the magic of your face.” This new line of makeup helps to balance tones, add depth, and achieve a flawless finish!

How can I get started with Demi Colour?

Model in Demi Colour makeup by Seint

Artists for Seint still color match customers to their Demi colours, or Edits as they are called, but they are required to become certified beforehand. They are carefully trained in color theory and must practice the application of the makeup themselves before they can color match customers to the makeup line. As you can see, this line of makeup has been carefully crafted by Cara and a lot of thought has gone into the creation of Demi Colour for customers. Lucky for you lovelies, I’m certified and ready to color match you whenever you’re ready!

The makeup is split into 3 Edits for customers: Angel Edit I (for fair to light toned individuals), Angel Edit II (for medium to medium dark toned individuals or individuals that I feel pull more green & blue tones), and Angel Edit III (for dark/deep toned individuals). Once a customer has been matched by a certified Artist to their correct Angel Edit, they can begin by purchasing the Angel Edit altogether or buying it bit by bit and beginning with the smaller Edits that correspond to the number they were matched to.

Demi

Can I use the same brushes for Demi that I use for IIID?

Seint makeup brushes for Demi Colour

The new line of makeup also includes a new line of brushes specially tailored to Demi Colour to provide precise and smooth application. There are 5 new brushes to choose from for Demi application:

Each brush is double ended just like the IIID brushes and serve to aid in application of Demi Colour as you balance tones, sculpt, and brighten your face and create that natural, flawless finish!

What has Demi Colour meant to me?

Jocelyn McClellan wearing Demi Colour by Seint

It’s amazing how something so good can drop into your lap when you least expected it to do so. Especially when it comes down to makeup. Demi has been that incredible game changer. I am so excited to show and teach more of Demi Colour. This is a makeup that you were not expecting to be such a game changer but it is! The way Demi Colour uses color science to create a makeup look as if you are not wearing any makeup at all is been incredible. Demi teaches you to analyze the color(s) that you see on your face creating an issue for you and apply the smallest amount of Demi to that area using the color needed to neutralize those problem areas. Throughout knowing more about Demi and learning the ropes, you will hear the words neutralize, saturated, brightening, sculpting, and more.

You will become more familiar with the actual colors on your face and what colors you see in depth. Demi Colour will also aid you in becoming familiar with the best ways to treat any saturated color on the face that you are wanting to address. Know that because this is so new, there will be a little practice time. Feel free to reach out to me on my Instagram page, Demi and Joce and get help with your Demi. It is different but I promise you it is incredible and most definitely worth learning!

From Maskcara to Seint

Seint blog post cover photo

Recently, Maskcara Beauty has made a pretty significant change to the company; they have officially moved on from Maskcara to Seint. With their upcoming birthday (January 15th) right around the corner, they finally revealed the surprise we have all been dying to hear. That being said, I have been receiving so many questions about this big change – why, when, who, etc. So keep reading to hopefully answer what you’ve been wondering!

Why Did They Change the Name?

Maskcara Beauty will always be a beloved part of our story. As the brand has grown, we have seen some issues with the name Maskcara; that the story of Cara’s blog gets lost, that we don’t actually sell mascara, that we don’t believe that makeup is a “mask,” and perhaps most importantly that this isn’t just Cara’s story. We wanted a name that Artists particularly could connect to and feel a sense of ownership of. Recognizing and enhancing the beauty that already exists in every face has always been our inspiration, so we are changing our name to better reflect our mission.

I couldn’t have said it better myself! A huge part of Maskcara has always been the Artists. While it is a direct sales company, the Artists are intended to be there for their customers every step of the way, not just for sales. They are, in a sense, your personal makeup artist, answering any questions you might have and helping you recognize the beauty that’s already there. In addition, the decision to say goodbye to Maskcara and introduce Seint is one Cara felt represented the company better than it’s former name. Seint no longer associates itself with just one woman, but with many, especially the Artists who connect women to each other!

What Does "Seint" Mean?

Maskcara or Seint makeup application

Our brand is about bringing beauty to the world and enhancing the beauty in every face. We believe there is a truth and a wholeness in beauty, and that concept kept bringing us back to beauty being divine and holy. We wanted a name that embraces the idea that beauty can stand on its own. The name is inspired by our belief that seeking, experiencing, and cultivating beauty is a sacred work; the work of saints. Saints aren’t made or created; they are simply recognized for the good they bring to the world. In a similar way, we believe that we don’t make or create beauty; we recognize, nurture, and preserve it.

“Seint” is the traditional French spelling of the word “Saint” and it’s perfect to describe the work of Artists, helping women recognize the beauty they have and enhancing it. I have always loved Maskcara because the makeup isn’t meant to hide your true beauty compared to other brands. Instead, it helps you see the beauty that’s  there and bring it to light!

Have the Products Changed?

Brushes, perfectors, palettes, and the skincare line are all getting an updated look, but the functionality of the product will stay the exact same. You will notice a very subtle change with the Seint rebranded tins.

Seint has updated all of their product packaging to reflect the name change and let me just say how gorgeous all of it is! The former Maskcara makeup brushes have also received a gorgeous update to both the look and the names. You can read more about them here!  Shown below are some of the updated packaging/products in addition to the new makeup bag, travel case, and brush holder. Even though the packaging has changed, the HAC (Highlight and Contour) method is still the same, tried and true. The tools are even more beautiful now to use as you apply your makeup!

Most products have received an update while others will be discontinued once their current stock is sold out. Those are:

  • Milk Creme (Tidal)
  • Milk Toner (Tidal)
  • Milk Cleanser (Tidal)
  • Stay Setting Spray with SPF
Any products that are limited edition/seasonal items will also be discontinued once they have sold out so make sure to go grab some of those goodies while they last!

Overall, this company truly impresses me time and time again. The purpose, products, and Artist program have been an incredible experience to be a part of and I can’t wait to see how far it will go! I love being an Artist with this company and I have been one for going on 4 years now. The name Maskcara will forever hold a special place in my heart but I can’t wait to see what the future holds for Seint! Stay tuned for more and new products to come because there will be new eyeshadows, new foundation colors, and a brand new product ready to shine!
